• what’s the approach to working on this piece that’s worked the best for you so far?
Wherever and whenever, need a quiet environment. (But the true is I don't have that much time. My classes are scheduled too full for me to work follow the calender this week.)
• what elements do you find you need to put you in a comfortable and productive frame of mind for working:
- at home with a hot cup of tea just before/after dinner?
I work better while I am in school, but at home I could work either. need food--this is the most important thing! need Movie soundtracks or CD drama while working that could enrich the boring work time.
- working early in the morning for a couple of hours before anyone else is awake?
no,I've never done this. usually work late till works done and have a short sleep.
-
breaking up your six hours of out-of-class work time into smaller
chunks, e.g. three times a week for two hours at a time? twice a week
for three hours at a time?
only 2 or 3 hours Monday/Friday(only these days have one class) for work time, but it would cause a over-amount work in weekend anyway.
- mixing work with clearly defined breaks for exercise or other play time?
no clear at all, no time for exercise and start getting weight; no sleep on Sunday and Monday(people can say many excuse on their difficulties.)

Journal #5
1) what has been the most challenging aspect of getting work done on this project thus far?
The most challenging aspect is to keep works done on due time. It is difficult to be punctual, so many of us have procrastination.
2) how are you addressing this challenge?
For me, this is also a big problem; but I will do my best to give my maximum love into it, and keep things done, follow the calendar.

For Matt Barnes' Junior Animation.(Personal opinions for class only)
• evidence of strong structural elements
(narrative or otherwise: sense of place and context in introduction,
clarity of articulation of and viewer engagement with the introduction
of the hero’s conflict, growing sense of tension as development events
occur, clear and powerful articulation of climactic moment, satisfying
conclusion)
Matt has a good sense of constructing stories. The story is clear and easy to understand. Another good thing is the Animation style is nice. It is disappointed that the climax moment is not that excited, not much engagements for us. I can not feel much tension in this piece, the main problem is the voice acting, it is no emotion within.
• sophistication of movement design (sense of weight via speed changes, squash and stretch, secondary action; strong acting via silhouette, gesture, and key poses; grace and fluidity via arcs and secondary action)
The Movement design has a little bit stiff, not much squash and stretch. Too much stays and stops. Walk cycles are not natural at all.
• evidence of character thought process, motivation, and appeal
The characters are too flat and no much personality.
• strength of composition and staging (effective and informed use of closeups, medium, full, wide, and other shots; use of active negative/positive space, size relationships and overlapping of forms to orient the viewer towards important shot elements
Limited skillful techniques in this field.
• effective pacing that keeps the viewer engaged from beginning to end
Not much, the story is too clear and somehow flat.
• strength of design and color: line quality, character and object proportions, color palette that supports the story and establishes an appealing aesthetic
As I said, the Animation style is nice; line quality is rough but looks fine, also colorful and bright.

Journal #3
1)how do you hope/want the audience to react/respond to your piece?
I think everyone would have different response to my animation. some people may like it, but some are not. some may think it is too violent, but that just an art form; some may think it is interesting. As my expectation, I wish people would like my piece, feel fun to watch it and enjoy it, and think about the meaning within, and impress everyone's mind.
2) how do you want the audience to feel about your characters? what kind of connection do you want them to feel to your characters?
My characters are weird but they shows power, and connect to our life. people who follow rules are too nice and taken advantage from others sometimes, but if the one who take advantage from others don't get any punishment, would be unfair to others. people should pay for what they did. I want my audience want to think this way after watching my animation.
3) what sort of audience reaction/response would leave you disappointed?
what would be the best response? imagine a critical review of your piece that would make you feel that your piece was understood, and that it was recognized as being a great piece, a festival winner, what would the review say?
I would not get disappointed in any sort of audience reaction. I only care the audiences that pay attention and think. if you like my animation, please clap for me; if you don't like it, you can keep silent. I am welcome for every review. If there is a critical review to make my animation into a great piece or a festival winner, it may be "try using more dramatic camera angle, try more mature style for it."

Journal #2
There are too many things appear in my mind,
I thought of something more wild.
As my mom told me that about the unfair situation in her workplace,
This idea full of my head.
Timid people keep their strong emotion deep inside,
but they need an exit to express.
Me in this story is a Judge(?)
I know I don't have this authority in real life,
but at lease in Animation.
People need punishment
Some of you might think there states a bias,
I did not mean anything important in here,
Characters are just need for Art.
